The B6316 is a short urban B-road in north Durham.
The road starts on the B6317 at traffic lights in the centre of Whickham and heads south along the residential Rectory Lane, continuing through the suburbs before coming into sight of open fields. For a few hundred yards the road forms the boundary of the urban area, with houses to the right and fields to the left, before the houses (but not the street lights) are left behind completely for a short section.
The road then crosses a steep valley to enter Sunniside. It skirts the eastern side of town before bearing to the left to end at a T-junction on the A692.
