The B6339 was a short, surprisingly rural, B-road to the north of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre.
The road started on the A696 (now A189) Ponteland Road in Fenham and headed northeast along Grandstand Road across the Town Moor. It met the B6338 (now A167) en route and ended in West Jesmond on the A1 (now B1318) Great North Road, with the A189 being the road ahead.
Many roads in this area have been renumbered and the B6339 is no exception: it has now become part of a western extension of the A189. The original through route along Ponteland Road has been closed off and so A189 traffic now moves seamlessly from the ex-B6339 to the ex-A696.
