Shap Interchange is junction 39 of the M6, and one of the highest motorway junctions in the country. It is a simple diamond giving a bizarre primary length of the B6261 a reason to exist, even though the fork signs on the mainline simply state "(A6)" and signs adjacent to the interchange are coloured white rather than green.
Unlike nearby J38 and J37, there are no cattle grids on the slip roads despite the altitude and remote grazing land close by.
