The B6051 runs northwest out of Chesterfield towards the fringes of the Peak District National Park.
Route
The road starts at a mini-roundabout on the B6057 Sheffield Road in Chesterfield town centre, within sight of the famous crooked spire of the church, and heads northwest through the suburbs. It crosses the B6150 in Newbold and B6050 in Upper Newbold - the B6051 has priority over both these roads at short multiplexes. The B6050 crossing is the original northern end of the B6051 but the road was extended to its present length in 1935.
The road then enters open country and zigzags through the fields. After going through Barlow it descends into the valley of the Barlow Brook and follows it upstream for the remainder of the route. The road enters the Peak District National Park and continues to climb steadily until it reaches Owler Bar, a long, thin gyratory where traffic has to turn left onto the A621.
History
The Newbold Road Improvement in Chesterfield from Watermeadow Lane to Keswick Drive, including a diversion, was opened on 19 August 1989 per the Land Compensation Act notice.
