|Route outline (key)|
The B6066 is an urban B-road in southern Yorkshire.
It starts on the B6064 in the Sheffield suburb of Woodhouse and heads north down the interestingly named Beaver Hill Road, crossing a short semi-rural section, including a bridge over the Shirtcliff Brook. The road then climbs into Orgreave, where it meets the B6200 (former A57) at a T-junction.
There is a short multiplex west along the B6200 before the B6066 regains its number by turning right. It heads north along Rotherham Road, meeting the B6065 en route, and crosses the Sheffield to Retford railway line to reach a roundabout.
Originally the B6066 continued straight on. However, an opencast mine (since closed) was built on top of the road in the 1990s and so the B6066 turns left to go round the edge (the road ahead has been rebuilt to serve a modern housing estate). Our road crosses a roundabout and turns right at the next two. At the latter it meets the B6533, which seems to exist purely as a link from here to the A630 Sheffield Parkway. Soon the road reaches a T-junction where it TOTSOs left and rejoins its original line.
The road continues north through Catcliffe. It meets the B6067 at a roundabout and then is the dominant partner in a multiplex north under a railway viaduct (which no longer carries track) and under the A630 to a mini-roundabout. The B6066 continues ahead and immediately goes under the M1. It goes through the suburb of Brinsworth to end at a T-junction on the A631.
Originally the B6066 continued further north. There was a short multiplex along the A631 under the railway bridge to the east before the road continued north along Canklow Road to end on Sheffield Road, Rotherham (the original line of the A630), immediately south of the town centre. Today, however, the current route of the A630 has taken over the first 500 m or so of this itinerary from Canklow Roundabout, and the rest of Canklow Road has been downgraded to unclassified status.
