The DfT Card Index from c2002 lists the B6029 as 'Newark on Trent (Local Route.)' This is obviously rather vague, and so far no mapping evidence has been discovered showing the number. However, it seems most likely that the route was created at some point in the 1970s, or early 1980s, after the A1 and A46 bypasses had been opened, and the old A road network in the town centre was being downgraded. It may even have been allocated slightly earlier, as a new number for the former B1185 which was pushed out of zone by the construction of the A1 bypass.
