The B7043 is a short link road to the north of the Rhins of Galloway. It was originally unclassified but had gained its number by 1930 when it is shown on the revised MOT map.
The route starts in a wood at a TOTSO junction on the B738 and heads eastwards along an S2 road. A couple of properties are passed as it winds through the trees which form part of the grounds of Lochnaw Castle to the south. The route then skirts the northern side of Lochnaw Loch, although there are only occasional glimpses of the water. A couple of tighter bends lead round the eastern side of the loch, and on past a holiday park. The route continues to wind eastwards, still lined with trees, although open fields are occasionally just visible. It curves around the southern side of High Hill, crossing a summit of 94m, before descending into the steep sided Aldouran Glen. The road stays on a ledge high above the burn, but slowly looses height and presently crosses a burn to enter open country. A couple of fields later, however, it reaches the small village of Leswalt, entering town along Glen Road. It soon reaches a slightly staggered crossroads, where it gives way to the main road. Due to the stagger, this is perhaps technically a TOTSO, as while the B7043 ends here and the B798 is ahead and to the right, there is a very short section of the main road, perhaps five metres, which cannot be the B798, and so must be the B7043!
