|Route outline (key)|
The C14w starts at a roundabout on the A717, Harbour Road, in the middle of Stranraer, and runs through the town as Charlotte Street, George Street and then crosses the A718 onto High Street. Across the B737, the route turns south west, following Glebe Street and then Coronation Drive as it works its way out of the town. This, then, is the western end of the old military road built 250 years ago by Major Caulfeild to connect Carlisle with Portpatrick. It comes to an end on the A77 just south of Enoch, with the main road slightly realigned to ease a bend. The A77 then follows the final section of the old road.
