Route
The A4154, forming part of a link between Rickmansworth and Chesham, runs along Woodside Road and Rickmansworth Road in Amersham.
The road begins on the A404 at a mini roundabout at Blackhorse Bridge and then passes immediately under that bridge as an S4. Blackhorse Bridge has a 14'6" height limit and carries the London Underground Metropolitan Line (which also has Chiltern Railways NR trains on it) on top. Immediately there's another mini roundabout with Raans Road and then the road is straight along Woodside Road. As the houses are set back from the road, and the road is fairly wide, the 30mph speed limit feels rather slow. After passing the Fire Station, and St John's Church, there is a mini roundabout with Chiltern Avenue, which heads to the station. After that roundabout, the road is bounded by commercial buildings until Sycamore Corner, a double mini roundabout with Sycamore Road, where the B4441 diverges, serving the main shopping area of Amersham. The road now becomes residential once again, this time with the name Rickmansworth Road. This takes us the short distance to the Boot and Slipper Roundabout: a mini roundabout with the A416, where the road ends.
History
In 1922, this road was unclassified, but quickly was upgraded to the A4090 and then, in 1935, became a 'split end' (spur) of the A404 (and various maps still show it as part of the A404). A lot of signs have (A404) or (A416), and only recently did more than one sign (at the junction with the A404) give the number A4154.
