Stafford Street Junction is the northernmost junction on the Wolverhampton Inner Ring Road, where it meets traffic from the north of the city via A449 and A460, which merge just to the north. It is also the primary point of access to the city centre via M6 and M54 to the north of the city.
It is an extremely busy light-controlled crossroads that, in common with all the junctions along A4150, has reserved space for grade-separation, in this case for rotational traffic. Since the junction was constructed in the early 1970s, the approach roads have all been widened and some of the reserved space has been used.
In the mid-1980s, the City Council had plans to replace this junction with a roundabout, but these plans have now been cancelled.
