The B4158 is the present number of the pre-bypass main road north of Chippenham. The road was numbered A429 for many years before that road was cut back to the M4 and the A350 extended north; the northern end of the B4158 (north of the original bypass, now the B4528) definitely held the A350 number but it is not known if the remainder ever did.
The road starts at a roundabout on a one-way system where the A420 and B4069 meet. It heads north pas the landmark St Paul's Church and continues along the residential Malmesbury Road, passing a park on the left at one point.
Presently the road climbs out of town, although it remains urban as it passes between houses and an industrial estate (which do not front onto the B4158). The B4528 comes in from the left at traffic lights then the road becomes residential again for a final run down to a roundabout on the A350.
