The B4039 is a short rural B-road in the south Cotswolds.
The road starts on the B4040 in Acton Turville. That road passes round the north of the village and so the B4039 meets it at both ends, before the two spurs meet by the Fox & Hounds Inn.
The road heads south out of the village and quickly crosses the M4. In Burton it turns eastwards and then stays on the left side of the valley of the By Brook. In Upper Castle Combe, by now heading south once more, it turns sharply left and passes Castle Combe Circuit.
After going through Yatton Keynell the B4039 ends near Allington on the A420, which has a short dual-carriageway section to aid the junction. Traffic should turn left for Chippenham.
