The B4125 runs from the A4030 in the Black Country town of Smethwick to the A456 near Chad Valley, Birmingham. Its northernmost section was originally the pre-bypass A457 out of Smethwick.
Starting at a gyratory on the A4030 by Victoria Park the B4125 climbs the High Street and passes a modern retail park before crossing the A4092 at traffic lights. The residential Shireland Road is then followed, which becomes Portland Road as we cross the boundary of the city of Birmingham. The A4040 is crossed at another set of lights.
The road continues southeastwards. It goes over the old Harborne Branch Line, now a footpath, then descends to meet the B4129. There's then a straight run to the end of the road at traffic lights on the A456. Owing to the angle of the junction B4125 traffic must turn left whilst eastbound A456 traffic may not access the B4125.
