The C17 starts on the A73 at Roberton in the Upper Clyde Valley and follows the Roberton Burn upstream, before turning north and climbing out of the valley. It passes over the shoulder of Dungavel Hill before dropping steadily down in to the valley of the Garf Water. After crossing the stream, the route soon ends on the B7055 near Sornfalla.
