This article is about the Class III road numbered C196 maintained by South Lanarkshire Council.
For other roads numbered C196, see C196.

The C196 is listed as being the Dykehad and Carnduff Road. It therefore seems fairly obvious that it starts on the C195 at Dykehead and heads south to the scattered settlement of Carnduff. However, then things start to get less certain. It is possible that it takes one of the left turns to meet the A726 near Bankfield, but it is more likely that it continues south east towards Strathaven, meeting the C143 to the north of the town.
