The C131 is a route which seems to have beeen overtaken by subsequent development in East Kilbride. Old maps suggest that it may once have been a through route, but as the new town developed over the last 60 or so years, it has been moved and chopped up, with some sections of the original road now completely obliterated.
The northern part of the route runs through the old town area. It starts on the B783, East Mains Road, at the eastern of the two elongated roundabouts, and heads south east, curving south west along Old Coach Road. A left turn at traffic lights then leads down Main Street and Stuart Street to a roundabout on the B761. Continuing ahead, the route then follows the dualled Churchill Avenue around the east side of the town centre to meet the A726 at another roundabout.
The southern section of the route resumes at a roundabout on Greenhills Road, an important distributor road through the south of the town which is apparently neither classified, nor a C road. It heads south on Auldhouse Road, through Auldhouse and then turns east at Raahead to meet the A726 near Rutherend.
