The C492 follows the western end of Pennyquick, part of the unofficial southern bypass of Bath. The rest of the route lies within the city boundaries, and so is classified as the C2. The route starts at The Globe Roundabout where it meets the A4 and A39, and heads south east past Newton St Loe and on to the city boundary at the Newton Brook on the edge of Twerton.
