For the original A6077 from Stanley to Hobson in County Durham, see A6077 (Co Durham).
The A6077 number was revived in 2005 for use in Blackburn in order to remove the duplicated A6177 number; this also saw a return of the B6232.
The road starts at a gyratory in the Townsmoor area of Blackburn, where it meets the A666 and A6078. It heads southeast through the suburbs crossing a few roundabouts and running through a retail park. The road soon ends at M65 J5.
The road itself is currently woefully over capacity, as it has not seen any significant upgrading despite the massive boom in development along its length since the completion of the M65 in 1997. It was originally very rural in character once it passed the former Queen's Park Hospital (now Royal Blackburn Hospital). The chain of roundabouts which due to the volumes of traffic clog up all approaches were installed in 2004.
Improvements for the route are under consideration, but nothing has yet been confirmed. In 2015, Guide Roundabout was converted to a signalised junction as part of the Local Pinch Point Fund programme. At the same time, Blackburn with Darwen Council upgraded the route to primary status.
