Near Bedale

The B6285 is a fairly short road in north Yorkshire. Except for its northern end it was originally unclassified but gained its number in 1935.

The road starts to the east of Burneston on the A6055. For many years this was a LILO on the northbound carriageway of the A1 but the main road has now been converted to motorway so we start on the two-way local access road. The road heads west into Burneston itself where it squeezes past the church to reach a T-junction. It TOTSOs right.

Now heading north the B6285 runs parallel to the A1(M) as far as Exelby before bearing off to the left. After winding across the fields the road reaches Bedale and enters town along South End. In the Market Place the B6268 comes in from the left. Originally the B6285 ended here, with the road ahead and to the right numbered A684. However, that road was moved onto its present bypass in August 2016 so we now continue ahead along the straight road into North End. After passing the church the road comes back into sight of open fields but soon ends at a roundabout on the A684.
