Railway bridge on the A689
The original route of the B6285 was a short road in Bishop Auckland, running southeastwards from the town centre as far as South Church.
It was soon renumbered as a northern extension of the A6072. With road renumbering in the area it has now become A689 north of the A688 Bishop Auckland bypass and B6282 to the south.
