The B6284 is a short link road in Bishop Auckland.
The road starts on the B6282 in the Etherley Dene area of town and heads east then north along Etherley Lane, crossing a bridge over the preserved Weardale Railway.
After the street name changes to West Road the B6284 descends to a T-junction. This is the original end of the road on the original line of the A689. However, when that road was diverted to cross the River Wear at the Newton Cap Viaduct the B6284 was extended to the right a short distance to meet the current line of that road at a roundabout.
It is interesting that almost all the roads in and around Bishop Auckland have been rerouted and renumbered in the past 50 years - but the B6284 has remained almost entirely unchanged since classification in 1922.
