The A1184 mostly follows the former line of the A11 north of Harlow.
Route
The road starts on the A414 in the Old Harlow area of the New Town. We head north and there is a brief stretch of dual-carriageway as we cross the West Anglia Main Line above Harlow Mill station. The road narrows and we cross the River Stort, after which there is a short rural section before we enter the next town, Sawbridgeworth.
The road enters town along Harlow Road, which becomes London Road (showing our history) in the town centre, and then Cambridge Road after a double mini-roundabout. There is then a longer rural section, broken by the village of Spellbrook, before a roundabout is reached at the southern end of the Bishop's Stortford western bypass. At one time the A1184 (and the A11 before it) continued ahead into the town centre along what is now the B1383 but now we bear left to skirt the urban area. A couple of roundabouts provide access to side roads before we end on the western side of town on the A120 northern bypass and A1250 (old A120 through town).
