For the original B3253 from Looe to Liskeard, see B3253 (Liskeard - Polperro).
The B3253 is a short B-road in east Cornwall, linking the A387 to itself to shorten the route into Looe. The road was originally unclassified but gained its number in the 1940s.
It could be assumed that given the A387 takes the longer route that that is the better road and the B3253 is only suitable for light traffic; in fact this is not the case. In Widegates there is a TOTSO on the A387 with that road signposted to Liskeard via the B3252, whilst the road ahead is signposted "Looe B3253 (A387)". It is therefore not known why our route still retains Class II status.
Heading southwest from Widegates the B3253 crosses the fields to a crossroads at No Man's Land before passing a couple of campsites and caravan parks. It then reaches the small village of St Martin where it bends sharply to the right to descend into Looe. There is a sharp left-hand bend as we reach the East Looe River which the A387 has come in along; our road is adjacent but some distance above. The river becomes visible long before the A-road does but after entering the outskirts of Looe the road ends at a sharply angled T-junction on that road.
