The B3290 was formerly a loop off the original riverside alignment of the A39 through Falmouth, and offered an alternative access route to the Docks area via the southwestern side of the then built-up area of the town.
Originally the road started on the High Street and ran along Killigrew Street before turning onto Western Terrace. Construction of Dracaena Avenue saw the road routed that way, with its original route of Killigrew Street becoming the B3361.
Today the B3290 has been subsumed into the A39, the riverside route having been declassified at some time around the end of the 1970s. Killigrew Street has been declassified.
