|Route outline (key)|
The B783 is a short link road in East Kilbride. The road came into existence, with its present number, with the construction of the New Town in the 1950s.
The route starts at a roundabout on the B761 West Mains Road and heads north along East Mains Road. We pass through a cutting, seemingly some distance from any urban sprawl, before bearing round to the right to come within view of houses once more. The carriageways split and we reach a long, thin roundabout, where an unclassified D2 road heads north. The next roundabout is also long and thin, suggesting that something more was planned for this road.
Continuing east we go over the original route of the A749, now closed to vehicles, then cross a dismantled railway line just afterwards. After a couple of bends we reach the end of the road at the Whirlies Roundabout, where we meet the A725 eastern bypass and the present route of the A749.
An amended OpenStreetMap trace for this route awaits uploading to the SABRE Wiki.
