The B1339 is part of the Northumberland Coastal Route.
It starts on the A1068 in Lesbury, just to the north of the bridge over the River Aln. It heads east through the village before heading north, parallel to the East Coast Main Line. It goes through Longhoughton before turning sharply right to pass between a quarry and Howick Hall. At Stamford, the B1339 originally bore left to make a beeline for the B1340 at Whinny Hill but was rerouted onto its current line in the 1920s.
North of Stamford, the B1339 crosses the Embleton Burn before going through the village of Embleton. It ends about a mile to the north of the village where the B1340 has to TOTSO. That road continues north along the coast.
