The B5005 was a short B-road through Swadlincote, the main town in South Derbyshire.
Route
It started on the A444 (formerly A511) at Cadley Hill and headed eastwards through Swadlincote along Hearthcote Road, West Street, High Street, Hill Street and Derby Road. It ended on the edge of Woodville on the A514.
History
Swadlincote Town Centre Relief Road
This was the Civic Way extension from Midland Road to Hill Street, which together with the original Civic Way from Hearthcote Road to Midland Road completed the bypass of the town centre. The Church Street to Hill Street section of the extension was opened on 10 May 1982. The section from Midland Road to Church Street was expected to be completed by the end of the month. The official opening by Sid Collins, Chairman of Derbyshire County Council, was reported in the 2 July 1982 Burton Daily Mail. Cost was £335,944. It then allowed the town centre streets to be pedestrianised.
The switch to A514
With the opening of William Nadin Way to the east of the town between 1995 and 1997, the A514 was switched onto the B5005 route through Swadlincote and the B5005 became redundant.
