The B5046 is a short, urban B-road in Stoke-on-Trent. However, its number appears on some maps as B5040 (now a defunct number but used until the 2000s only a few miles away), although this may be a copyright trap owing to the unimportance of the route. Unusually for Stoke-on-Trent, the B5046 has speed humps throughout its entire length.
The road starts on the A53 very close to the Festival Park roundabout. Since this junction is a LILO, B5046 traffic must turn westward on meeting the A53 and therefore has no access to the roundabout. Travelling south, the B5046 passes Etruria Park, with a set of traffic lights (with unclassified roads) at the far side. Soon afterwards, it reaches Etruria Locks - one of those modern canalside housing estates - and the car park for the Etruria Industrial Museum.
Continuing south, the B5046 changes its name from Etruria Vale Road to Bedford Road as it reaches Bedford Street. Soon afterwards, it meets eastbound traffic from the B5045 a block before a roundabout with the A5006, where the B5046 ends and westbound traffic on the B5045 begins its journey.
