The B5197 is a short link road in south Lancashire.
The road starts at the A506 TOTSO near M58 J1, to the east of Moss Side (itself on the eastern edge of Maghull). It heads north through open country before reaching the edge of Aughton. It goes through the suburb of Town Green before bending sharply to cross the Liverpool - Ormskirk Railway Line.
After going through Aughton Park the road reaches the edge of Ormskirk and splits by St Anne's church. The road ahead reaches a mini-roundabout on the B5319 (former A5070) from where traffic can head into the town centre. Alternatively traffic can TOTSO left by the church to reach a roundabout on the A59 which bypasses the town centre.
