Once-proposed number for the M27 spur / M275 mainline from the M27 northwards at Port Solent Interchange. Originally the junction was planned to be three roundabout interchanges on the M27 (one for M274, one for M275, one for A3), but before construction started, it became a free-flow interchange.
Correspondence amongst Hampshire highway engineers refers to a proposed number of M274 for it, though it was never assigned or used. This was for a sequence of spurs off the M27, increasing number heading eastwards: M270 from junction 2, M271 from junction 3, M272 from junction 5, M273 from junction 6, M274 from junction 12 heading north, and M275 from junction 12 heading south.
One proposal had M27 J11-12 taking a more southerly route than it does today. Had this happened, the supposed M274 would have had to be longer, and may have deserved its number.
