Route

The A66(M) turns off the A1(M)

The A66(M) is a motorway spur (known as the Blackwell Spur) forming part of the route between Scotch Corner and Darlington. It opened in 1965 along with the rest of the A1(M) in the area. The original construction orders referred to the road as the Darlington Spur Special Road.

The A66(M) starts at a simple fork junction with the A1(M) at Blackwell Spur Interchange (A1(M) Junction 57). There are no intermediate junctions, and the motorway curves around to the east, terminating on the Blackwell Roundabout From here, the road joins the pre-motorway route of the A1; this is now unclassified to the south, and part of the A66 to the east.

The motorway is two lanes in each direction with a hard shoulder.
