The use of this road number in this location is currently disputed, because:
This proposed number is based on hear-say. Pretty decent hear-say, but hear-say none the less

Once-proposed number for the M27 spur from M27 junction 2.
A SABRE myth is that it was numbered A36(M). Correspondence amongst Hampshire highway engineers refers to a proposed number of M270 for it, though it was never assigned or used. This was for a sequence of spurs off the M27, increasing number heading westwards: M270 from junction 2, M271 from junction 3, M272 from junction 5, M273 from junction 6, M274 from junction 12 heading north, and M275 from junction 12 heading south (originally, there was to be two close junctions, rather than the 1 today).
