For the High Wycombe and Beaconsfield bypasses, see A40(M) (Denham - Stokenchurch).
The Westway is a former motorway, numbered A40(M), elevated above West London, heading from just outside Ringway 1 (M41) to the Marylebone Flyover (A404), which flies over the A5, linking the Westway to the Inner Ring Road (A501). When TfL took over ownership, the A40(M) was downgraded to A40, with the Marylebone flyover also gaining that number.
The A40 west of here was possibly going to be A40(M), though may have been M40, or all-purpose A40.
