The A4083 was the main road into Oswestry from the east.
At Queen's Head, the A5 from Shrewsbury continued northwards via Whittington to bypass Oswestry. The A4083 turned off just before the eponymous pub to head northwest past Aston Hall into the centre of Oswestry. It entered town along Salop Road before running along Leg Street to end on the A483 Cross Street.
With the building of the A483 Oswestry bypass and the rerouting of the A5 to meet it, the A4083 number no longer exists. East of the Oswestry bypass it is now the A5 (although this has been upgraded and straightened); to the west, B4579.
