|Route outline (key)|
The A4030 runs through the eastern edge of the Black Country.
The road starts at a signalised crossroads on the A456 on the Birmingham boundary near Bearwood. The road heading north to this point is the A4040 which now bears right onto a multiplex and the A4030 takes on its northerly direction.
The road heads north along Bearwood Road, which is largely lined with shops, soon crossing the B4182 at traffic lights. The road then moves gently from shopping to housing and soon another set of lights is reached by the old Barleycorn pub where the road TOTSOs left; ahead is the A4092.
The A4030 continues north, still on Bearwood Road, to reach a gyratory by Victoria Park. This was the original northern end of the road on the original route of the A457. However, that road has now moved on to a bypass, so the A4030 has taken on its old route along Smethwick High Street. Where the High Street bears left the A4030 continues ahead and ends on the present A457 at traffic lights opposite Rolfe Street station.
