B5272

Cockerham

The B5272 runs parallel to the A6 for a few miles in central Lancashire.

It starts on the A6 Garstang bypass at traffic lights and heads northwest along Cockerham Road. Before the bypass was built in the early 1930s, the B5272 started on the then-A586 to the west of Garstang and headed north along Nateby Crossing Lane.

After old and new roads combine the B5272 continues north to cross a narrow bridge over the Lancaster Canal. Road and canal then run parallel for a short distance before diverging. Although the road passes a number of buildings it goes through no places of note. There is, however, a narrow bridge over a stream in a place the road signs claim as Winmarleigh (whose village centre lies to the west).

The road bends sharply left onto Ratcliffe Wharf Lane before continuing into the village of Cockerham. It passes along the narrow Main Street before ending on the A588, which is D1 at this point.
