The B5293 follows the pre-bypass route of the A586 through the Lancashire village of Great Eccleston. The road number dates to the 1940s.
At its western end the road turns south off the A586 in the small gap between Little and Great Eccleston and runs into the latter. It heads east along West End and the High Street, with the road narrowing in the village centre. We leave town along Raikes Road and soon return to the A586 at a T-junction on the boundary of open country.
