The B5298 was a short link road to the north of Workington.
It started at the west end of the A597 by the station and headed north to cross the River Derwent at the Northside Bridge and end on the A596 on the far side.
The road remained the B5298 until 1988. In this year a western bypass was built for Workington; this took over the entire of the B5298 as its northern section. This was numbered A597. The road retains this number, although the Northside Bridge was destroyed in the floods of 2009 and had to be replaced.
