For the current E01, from Larne to Rosslare and on to Seville, Spain, see E01.
The E1 was a European route running from London to Southampton via Basingstoke, and onto Palermo, Sicily via Paris and Rome. It lasted from 1950 to 1983.
Route
The route description never changed, running London - Paris - Rome - Palermo for all 33 years.
UK Route
Beginning in Central London, the E1 headed west to Hounslow on the A4, before taking the A30 to Basingstoke and then the A33 to Southampton. When the M3 opened, it diverted onto the A316 and M3 route, rather than going via Hounslow.
