For the original B4028 northeast of Woodstock, see B4028 (Oxfordshire).
The B4028 is a short B-road heading northeast from Coleford in the Forest of Dean. The road was originally unclassified but gained its number in the mid-1920s, making it an early example of a recycled number.
The road starts at traffic lights on the B4228 relief road in Coleford but it originally started on that road in the Market Place just to the west. We head northeast along Gloucester Road and the B4226 turns right on the edge of open country. The road is then semi-rural for a short distance, passing a golf course and industrial estate, before reaching Mile End, where it is crossed by the B4432. This junction is an accident black spot and had traffic lights installed at the end of 2018. As part of the work the speed limit through the crossroads was reduced from 40 to 30. Heading towards Coleford traffic wanting to head to Broadwell and vise versa can bypass the crossroads by using Wood Road just to the north.
After passing the cemetery buildings are finally left behind and we reach the trees. The remainder of the B4028 is a more-or-less straight route through the forest before the houses come back at Edge End just before the road ends at a triangular junction on the A4136.
