The B4018 was originally allocated to a short link road in Abingdon between the B4017 Bath Street and the A34 Stert Street , going along Broad Street in the town centre.
In 1935, it became a spur of the B4017. In the 1950s, it became part of the A34, forming part of a one way system through the town.
Today, the road is unclassified and largely pedestrianised.
