The B6132 runs parallel to the A61 for most of the way between Wakefield and Barnsley.
The road starts at traffic lights on the A61 at Sandal, to the south of Wakefield city centre, and heads south, meeting the B6378 before entering open country.
After crossing a low hill the road descends to bend sharply right and cross a stream. It crosses a bridge over a dismantled railway line before coming to a crossroads, where the road becomes lined with houses once more. It continues south through the centre of Royston, crossing the B6428 at traffic lights.
Royston moves into Carlton with only a short rural stretch between them. On reaching the church the road TOTSOs right; this was originally the end of the B6132 and the road to the right was the B6131 - there were no other classified roads here.
The B6132 heads west along the ex-B6131 to reach a roundabout where the road splits. Straight ahead is the original line of the B6131, which reaches the A61 at traffic lights at New Lodge. However, the mainline of the road turns left to skirt Athersley South and enter Smithies. It crosses the A633 at traffic lights before descending to end back on the A61 at another set of traffic lights. Turn left for Barnsley.
