This article is about the original A1072 in Cambridgeshire.

The original version of the A1072 was a short road in Cambridgeshire.
It started on the A142 at Witcham Toll and headed south to Haddenham. Then it headed east to Stretham where it ended on the A10.
The A1072 was created in the mid-1920s out of two Class II roads; the B1087 was its north-south section and the B1085 its east-west section. In 1935 the whole thing was renumbered A1123, along with the former B1085 west of Haddenham.
Much later, it was decided that giving the A1123 a branch was foolish and so the ex-B1087 gained its own number of A1421.
