The A1028 is a short cut between the A16 at Ulceby Cross and the A158 at Gunby for traffic between Louth and Skegness.
The road starts at the Ulceby Cross roundabout, where the southbound A16 turns right to head back southwestwards. The A1028 takes on its alignment and heads along a straight road southeastwards into Ulceby itself. It bends sharply right then left along the southern end of the village street (although the village centre is away from the main road), continuing along another dead-straight road – a Roman alignment in fact.
The road runs along the top of the ridge for a couple of miles before another sharp right-hand bend takes the A1028 away from the Roman road. It soon bends left again to continue its southeasterly course but the road is no longer straight. It winds past a telecommunications mast which has been visible for some distance before going downhill to end at a roundabout. From here, the A158 heads east to Skegness (or west back to the A16) and the B1196 heads back north. The National Trust's Gunby Hall is also accessible from this roundabout.
