This article is about the original A1059 to the north of Newcastle upon Tyne.

In the original 1922 road numbering, the A1059 number was allocated to a route to the north of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The road started on the A1 (now B1318) in Gosforth and headed east along Church Road and Church Avenue. After crossing the railway line (now the metro) by South Gosforth station the road reached the A189, which was crossed by means of a short multiplex across the Ouse Burn.
Continuing east the road ran along Benton Park Road to reach a crossroads in Longbenton where it ended. Ahead and to the right were the A188 whilst the road to the left was numbered A1060.
The road was renumbered as part of the A191 when that road was rerouted after World War II.
