The A5099 forms a connection between the Golden Mile section of Blackpool's Promenade, and Waterloo Road (the main road east to the M55). As it passes through the town centre one way system it can be very busy. The road was originally the A584 mainline and gained its current number when that road was rerouted along the seafront in the late 1920s.
The A5099 starts at traffic lights on the A5073 and heads north along Central Drive. The street name suggests something special but in fact the road is an ordinary residential road. The B5261 is presently met at a mini-roundabout and the A5099 bears left.
With the Tower now visible ahead the road enters the town centre along a traffic-calmed road with no white lines down the middle (presumably to slow traffic down as the road is certainly wide enough). A one-way loop is soon met, with inbound traffic continuing ahead on Central Drive. The site of Blackpool Central station is passed on the left; this is now a huge car park and is better accessed from the M55 and Yeadon Way. After passing this a D2 road turns left to end at traffic lights on the Promenade on the A584; this is the A5099 although some maps claim it's unclassified.
If we stay on the loop we soon bear sharply right onto Albert Road to pass a shopping centre and reach traffic lights. The A5099 TOTSOs right here and heads back south along Coronation Street, which starts off lined with shops and ends up lined with guest houses. There's a set of traffic lights at the end of the road and the A5099 TOTSOs right to rejoin Central Drive, where outbound traffic should turn left.
