The original route of the B880 was on the Isle of Bute, running along the west coast from the B878 at Milton to the A845 (present B881) junction at Ambrismore. It was short-lived, however, and by 1932 the route had been absorbed by a greatly extended A844, and the number re-used on neighbouring Arran.
The 1922 MOT Road List defines this route as: Milton - Little Kilmory - Ambrismore
