The C111n starts on the bend on the B729 at Nether Gribton, and continues west, following the Cluden Water upstream. As the Cluden becomes the Cairn Water, road and river turn north west, with a couple of bridges carrying spurs of the C112n on the south bank of the river. After the second bridge, at Stepford, the road turns away from the river and heads north to the small village of Dunscore. Here, it doglegs across the C37n, to reach the B729 .
