|Route outline (key)|
The C99a starts on the A708 to the east of Moffats town centre and heads south along the Old Carlisle Road. After leaving the town behind, the route keeps left at the first fork to cross the Moffat Water. It then follows the east bank of the River Annan south, crossing over the railway a little beyond where the river passes under it. After passing through the scattered village of Newton, the route finally leaves the river as it passes behind Dinwoodie Hill. Its then not much further to the end of the route on the B7076 near Dinwoodie Lodge, even if the council list says that it ends on the motorway itself!
