The C4w starts on the A747 at the northern end of the pretty coastal village of Port William. It heads northwards at first to the village of Kirk of Mochrum and then, turning a little to the east, continues past scattered houses and farms to reach the B7052 just south of the B7005 junction at Culmalzie.
